#129 of 2011: The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
While I’ve been waiting for a Sophie Kinsella novel where the girl is not shallow and is responsible, I didn’t expect I’d find it that boring compared to the others. I’m all for women empowerment and such but oh no, Kinsella should stick to her strengths - of strengthening her trademark “imperfect women!” Don’t get your panties in a bunch - I still enjoyed Samantha Sweeting’s fall and rise journey (mistakes always come first before redemption!), which had her leave her high-powered life in the city to a humble sweet village in a province where she learned to “domesticate” herself. Also, what I like about Kinsella’s “leading men” is that they themselves are NOT perfect, too (cue: Nathaniel)! I hate other chick lit that are too stereotypical and formulaic, etc. - it takes the whole fun out of reading when everything’s so damn predictable! That said, this is still worth an hour of your leisure time on the hammock!
