#126 of 2011: Shopaholic and Baby by Sophie Kinsella
Quite contrary to everybody else’s opinion, this book was one of the most enjoyable installments of the Shopaholic Series. Becky Bloomwood has become shallower than ever, which only makes you cheer more for her to GROW UP and straighten out her life… especially now that she and Luke are going to have a baby. It was also fun that Luke has gotten a bit more of a life - even though it’s about a past one with the obstetrician-slash-ex-girlfriend Venetia Carter - because he always seems mysterious in the previous books. Like, what Sophie Kinsella ever shares about him is that he’s a workaholic, which is all obvious, thank you v. much. Anyway, I would have loved it if Kinsella split this story in half - one going through the pregnancy and one going through motherhood - because 1) I thought it was too contrived the way Becky’s dilemmas kept popping on in every chapter and how LONG it took her to get to solve them and 2) Minnie Brandon deserved a spotlight of her own after all that waiting, you know?
