#124 of 2011: All-American Girl by Meg Cabot
I’ve seen Princess Diaries a couple of times and I’ve been wanting to read the book it was based from but this one came up on my pile first… and well, basically, it was no problem! I was just excited to finally read a Meg Cabot book. And it didn’t fail me! Now, I get all the craze about her books because everything’s such a lovely fairy tale! I mean, I’m past my tween years but hey, I’d really take all the giddiness I can! I liked the surprise of how the main character, Samantha, wasn’t really the stereotypical picture of an All-American girl, and how she ended up “dating” the son of the President of the country! There’s also a bit of unrequited love, friendship, sisterhood, arts, and even a little of politics in this story, which I all enjoyed not only because they were entertaining, but because they were insightful as well. A thumbs-up for Cabot - she really knows how to work it with the young girls with her quick and fun stories.
