#121 of 2011: Ghoul Reporter Digs Up Zombies by Linda Ellerbee
My aunt, who sent me these Get Real series books, said I’m already too old to appreciate these “younger” stories but ZOMBIES!!! IN CASEY SMITH’S WORLD!! Horror-some!! How could I be too old for that? And it’s not like Linda Ellerbee would just create a story that straight - just all Halloweeny, because, of course, she didn’t. Mixed up along the creepy graveyard visits and Internet research on dead 12-year-old girls is a story on the appreciation of identity, ancestry, history, and even race. Although very much set in the “Americas,” I could still relate to the curiosity of each one of them - Casey, Toni, Gary, Ringo, Megan - towards their assigned “deads” and respective issues revolving around The Day of the Dead. Casey never fails with her insights, adventures, and fun sarcasm so “hiding out in the bushes to catch the real story” was lots of fea—- fun. Read this at night to for fatter goosebumps!
